How to choose upper body machines

Start with the muscles you want to train, then choose how you load the weight. Our plate-loaded Powerline and Body-Solid machines suit home gyms and studios. The Body-Solid Pro ClubLine Series 2 machines have their own weight stack and are built for busy commercial gyms. All eight match, so hotels, apartment buildings and clinics can build a Series 2 set one machine at a time.

Upper body machine FAQs

Which upper body machines should a gym start with?

Most gyms start with a lat pulldown, a chest press and an assisted pull-up and dip machine. Together they cover the main pushing and pulling muscles. Add a pec fly, an arm machine and an ab machine as the floor grows.

Is a chest press machine as good as a bench press?

They train the same muscles. A chest press guides the movement, so you can train hard and safely without a spotter, which makes it a good choice for beginners and for gyms. A bench press also works the smaller muscles that steady the bar. Many people do both.

Does an assisted pull-up machine actually help?

Yes. It takes part of your bodyweight off, so you can do full pull-ups, chin-ups and dips with good form from day one. Use less assistance as you get stronger, until you can do them on your own.

Do the machines come with weights?

The Pro ClubLine Series 2 machines come with their own weight stack, and you choose the stack size when you order. The PLM180X and GLM85B are plate-loaded, so plates are sold separately; the preacher curl bench uses your own barbell or dumbbells.

Is delivery included?

Yes. Every machine ships free Australia-wide by freight from our Adelaide warehouse.
