Three questions narrow it down: do you need a bench that adjusts or will a flat one do, how heavy will you lift, and does it need to fold away after each session?
An adjustable bench is the one to buy if you only buy one: flat for bench presses and rows, incline for shoulders and upper chest, decline for lower chest and sit-ups. The Powerline PFID125X folding bench is our best seller: it arrives assembled, has seven positions, takes 227 kg and folds to 23 cm high for storage. The Powerline PFI150 adds a separately adjustable seat on a 14-gauge 2″×3″ steel frame. For heavy lifting, the Rugged Y001 flat/incline bench is rated to 680 kg with a lifetime frame warranty. For commercial gyms, the Body-Solid SFID325B is a commercial flat/incline/decline bench rated to 453 kg, and the Body-Solid SFID425 adds a leg hold-down for decline presses and sit-ups. Both are part of the Body-Solid Pro ClubLine commercial range.
If you train inside a power rack and mostly bench press, a flat bench is the most stable option: the Rugged Y041 has a 9 cm high-density pad and a heavy steel base. No power rack? The Best Fitness BFOB10B Olympic bench has its own uprights that hold a 6 or 7 ft bar up to 136 kg, plus a leg developer, and folds for storage.
The Powerline PPB32X preacher curl bench is a dedicated arm bench: the angled pad braces your upper arms so the biceps do all the work, with an extra-wide adjustable seat and a 136 kg capacity. Use it with your own barbell, EZ-curl bar or dumbbells.
The Best Fitness AB Mantis is a seated crunch and knee-raise machine for people who don't want to get down on the floor. The Powerline PAB21X ab bench is plate-loaded, so you can add resistance as your core gets stronger. For classic sit-ups and crunches, the Best Fitness BFAB10B folds away and adjusts to 15°, 20° or 25°, and the Powerline PAB139X ab board has a fixed 18° decline and 8″ rollers. For a home gym with one bench, adjustable. It does everything a flat bench does plus incline and decline work. A flat bench is simpler and very stable, so it suits lifters who mostly bench press inside a rack, or a gym that already has adjustable benches.
Flat, incline, decline: the three ways the back pad sets. The PFID125X, PFI150, SFID325B and SFID425 all decline; the Rugged Y001 goes from flat to near-upright but doesn't decline.
Flat: bench press, dumbbell press and flyes, one-arm rows and step-ups. Incline: incline press, shoulder press and seated curls. Decline: decline press, crunches and sit-ups. That range is why an adjustable bench is the first bench most home gyms buy.
The capacity covers you and the bar together. Our home benches take 227 kg, the commercial Body-Solid benches 453 kg and the Rugged benches 680 kg. On the BFOB10B, 136 kg is what its uprights can hold.
Yes. Every bench ships free Australia-wide from our Adelaide warehouse.
